Dana Point, CA — House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy has endorsed Diane Harkey in California’s 49th Congressional District. The endorsement solidifies Harkey as the front-runner for the Republican Party in the key 49th District, where incumbent Darrell Issa is not seeking reelection.
“I am honored and grateful to receive the endorsement of our Majority Leader who is working so hard to expand our economy, protect taxpayers and keep our nation strong,” said Harkey. “I believe the endorsement is a recognition of the hard work we have done in the District to make sure the 49th stays red in 2018 and House Republicans maintain the majority.”
Diane Harkey has become the front-runner in the election to replace U.S. Representative Darrell Issa, having received endorsements from the Republican Party of San Diego and Orange Counties.
As a member of the California Board of Equalization, Diane Harkey is the highest-ranking Republican woman in the state. She represents 9.5 million constituents including the entire 49th Congressional District in San Diego and Orange counties.
Harkey graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Economics from the University of California, Irvine and enjoyed a successful 30-year career in corporate finance and banking prior to entering public service. Working in good and bad economic climates with individuals, small-business owners, and leaders of publicly-traded companies helped Harkey form the pragmatic business perspective that she will bring to Congress.
