Diane Harkey Urges San Diego Board of Supervisors to Back Department of Justice Lawsuit against Sanctuary State Laws

Oceanside, CA – – State Board of Equalization member Diane Harkey, candidate for Congress in CA 49 (Issa) today urged the San Diego Board of Supervisors to back the federal lawsuit against California over its Sanctuary State law.

Harkey wants San Diego County to join Orange County, which voted last week to join the federal lawsuit as a friend of the court.

The main focus is Senate Bill 54 which was signed by Gov. Jerry Brown.  The measure prohibits state and local police and sheriffs from notifying federal officials when they are about to release illegal immigrants, including those who committed serious crimes and who should be deported.

“California’s law is probably unconstitutional and it definitely puts our citizens at risk of being victimized,” said Harkey. “State and federal law enforcement should work together to protect the public. SB 54 puts them at odds.”

Diane Harkey is running for Congress in the 49th Congressional District with the support of the incumbent, Rep. Darrell Issa, who is not seeking reelection.
