SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA – – Today, Board of Equalization Member Diane Harkey announced the endorsement of Republican Carl DeMaio in her campaign for Congress.
Carl DeMaio is one of San Diego County’s most recognizable Republican leaders and one of the driving forces behind the effort to repeal California’s Gas Tax.
“The response I have been receiving to my campaign is heart-warming,” said Harkey. “Carl DeMaio is a leader that takes action against some of the harmful policies coming from Sacramento and Washington including the recent additional tax increases. I am excited to work with him when I’m in Congress to curb some of the out of control policies that hurt our residents.”
Harkey enjoys strong Republican support in the campaign for the 49th including U.S. Representative Darrell Issa.
As Chairwoman of the California Board of Equalization, Diane Harkey is the highest-ranking Republican elected official in the state. She represents 9.5 million constituents in Orange, San Diego as well as several other counties and won her election for the Board of Equalization with over 61% of the vote.
Diane Harkey graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Economics from the University of California, Irvine and enjoyed a successful 30-year career in corporate finance and banking prior to entering public service. Working in good and bad economic climates with individuals, small-business owners, and leaders of publicly-traded companies helped form the pragmatic business perspective that Harkey will bring to Congress.
